The person who once sat quietly behind the political stage, raising slogans from the crowd, stands today as a poignant symbol of sorrow in the pages of history. Establishing a rare example of clean politics, she risked her life in the field of struggle. Even long after her departure, her absence continues to bring tears to the conscious people of Bengal. When the assassin's brutal strike brought down her vibrant body during the barbaric grenade attack on August 21, 2004, it was not merely a political worker who fell; rather, an indomitable torch of women's rights and liberation was silenced.
Having spent her entire life staying away from the allure of power and embracing the demands of the street as her own, this uncompromising leader's life was the embodiment of sacrifice. Walking the path of politics since childhood, she was simultaneously a loving mother and a responsible homemaker in her personal life. The way she gracefully balanced the harsh realities of politics with her household remains a matter of wonder today. The condemnation that echoed in her voice that day in protest against the injustice faced by the female students of Jahangirnagar University proved that she was unflinching when it came to truth.
At every turn of the women's movement, whether in the roundtable discussions of the fortnightly magazine Anannya or in the fight for human rights, her firm presence continues to stir our souls. Through the party's darkest times or moments of triumph, she never retreated from the streets, and that dedicated soul is now just a deep sigh. In the struggle to achieve the rights of countless people, she was a silent general who avoided the spotlight and considered human welfare to be her highest calling.
When she succumbed to death after a bloody struggle of several days, her blood-stained saree and mutilated flesh did not merely wound her body; they paralyzed the hearts of thousands of people in this country. Her shoes and torn clothing scattered across that blood-soaked premises still seem to demand justice against the savagery of the assassins. Her husband Zillur Rahman's helpless cry—"How will I live alone!"—still pierces our hearts today. Ivy Rahman's tragic departure is not just a loss for one family; it is an irreplaceable, sorrowful chapter for the entire nation. She will live forever in the soil of Bengal and in the hearts of its people, and her message of great sacrifice will guide our future generations toward a sunlit horizon of promise.
