বিএনপি সরকার ক্ষমতায় এসেই বিদ্যুৎ বিল বৃদ্ধি করেছে। জনগণকে এখন ১৪.৫ শতাংশ বাড়তি বিদ্যুৎ বিল পরিশোধ করতে হচ্ছে। তারপরও মানুষ বিদ্যুৎ পাচ্ছে না। ব্যবসা- প্রতিষ্ঠান ও কলকারখানা জ্বালানির অভাবে বন্ধ হয়ে যাচ্ছে, শ্রমিকরা প্রতিনিয়ত চাকরি হারাচ্ছে। দেশে কেন দেশি বা বিদেশি বিনিয়োগ হচ্ছে না? যুবসমাজের জন্য কোনো নতুন চাকরি তৈরি হচ্ছে না।
এছাড়াও দেশের অর্ধেক মানুষকে বাদ দিয়ে ১২ ফেব্রুয়ারি একটি একতরফা নির্বাচন হয়েছে এবং একটি একতরফা সংসদ গঠন করা হয়েছে, যেখানে বিরোধিতার নামে শুধু নাটক হয়। বিচার বিভাগকে নগ্নভাবে রাজনৈতিক হাতিয়ার হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হচ্ছে। দলীয়করণ চরম সীমায় পৌঁছেছে। গণমাধ্যমের স্বাধীনতা শূন্যের কোঠায়। বিরোধী দলের নেতা-কর্মীদের প্রতিনিয়ত দমন-পীড়ন করা হচ্ছে। বিএনপি-জামায়াতপন্থী লোকজন ছাড়া মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনার পক্ষে থাকা বেশিরভাগ মানুষকে কোনো গণমাধ্যমে ডাকা হয় না।
এদিকে আওয়ামী লীগ সরকারের আমলে নেওয়া প্রকল্পগুলোর খরচ দ্বিগুণ-তিনগুণ বৃদ্ধি করা হচ্ছে। কোথাও কোনো জবাবদিহিতা নেই। যে হারে দুর্নীতি হচ্ছে, তার কানাকড়ি খবরও গণমাধ্যমে আসে না। দেশ না পেল গণতন্ত্র, না পেল অবাধ, সুষ্ঠু ও অন্তর্ভুক্তিমূলক নির্বাচন; না পেল আইনের শাসন, না পেল মতপ্রকাশের স্বাধীনতা।
অন্যদিকে, উন্নয়নের ধারাবাহিকতার পরিবর্তে পেল টিকার অভাবে হাজারের বেশি শিশুর মৃত্যু, সারা দেশে লোডশেডিং এবং অদক্ষ অর্বাচীনদের হাতে দেশ শাসন। আওয়ামী লীগের শাসনামলে জঙ্গি, জামায়াত, স্বাধীনতাবিরোধী এবং কিছু কিছু ক্ষেত্রে অন্ধ আওয়ামী লীগবিরোধীরাই সমস্যায় ছিল। এই গোষ্ঠী হয়তো এখন ভালো আছে, কিন্তু দেশের সাধারণ মানুষ কি ভালো আছে? ২০২৪ সালের ৫ আগস্টের পর মানুষ কেমন বাংলাদেশ পেল তাহলে?

Even after coming to power, the BNP government increased electricity prices. People are now forced to pay an additional 14.5 percent on their electricity bills. Yet, people are still not getting power. Business establishments and factories are shutting down due to a lack of fuel, and workers are constantly losing their jobs. Why is there no domestic or foreign investment in the country? No new jobs are being created for the youth.
Furthermore, excluding half the country's population, a one-sided election was held on February 12, resulting in a one-sided parliament where opposition exists only as a farce. The judiciary is being blatantly used as a political tool. Partisanship has reached its absolute peak. Press freedom is at zero. Opposition leaders and activists are subjected to constant repression and persecution. Except for BNP-Jamaat loyalists, most people who stand for the spirit of the Liberation War are not invited to any media outlets.
Meanwhile, the costs of projects undertaken during the Awami League government's tenure are being doubled and tripled. There is no accountability anywhere. News of the rampant corruption taking place does not even reach the media. The country received neither democracy nor free, fair, and inclusive elections; neither the rule of law nor freedom of expression.
On the other hand, instead of a continuation of development, the nation witnessed the deaths of over a thousand children due to a lack of vaccines, nationwide load-shedding, and the country being governed by inexperienced and foolish individuals. During the Awami League's rule, militants, Jamaat members, anti-liberation forces, and, in some cases, blind anti-Awami League elements were the ones facing trouble. That group might be doing well now, but are the general people of the country doing well? What kind of Bangladesh did the people actually get after August 5, 2024?
