আমি ভ্রমণে ছিলাম। মনে বড় আশা ছিল, শত বঞ্চনা আর ক্লিষ্ট বাঙালি জাতিকে যিনি শত শত বছর পর প্রথম অন্ন, বস্ত্র, শিক্ষা, স্বাস্থ্য, বিদ্যুতায়ন, ইন্টারনেট ও টেলিকমিউনিকেশন ইত্যাদির মাধ্যমে সম্মানজনক জাতিতে রূপান্তরিত করেছেন, তাঁর জন্ম ২৮শে সেপ্টেম্বর ১৯৪৭ সালে। তাঁকে নিয়ে একটা লেখা লিখব ভেবেছিলাম। কিন্তু এই মহীয়সী নারী একটি জাতির উন্নয়নের জন্য যে ত্যাগ এবং অবদান রেখেছেন, তা খুব সংক্ষেপে বর্ণনা করলেও একটি পুস্তিকা হয়ে যাবে। যা এই স্বল্প সময়ে সম্ভব নয়।
তাঁর প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা ও মানবকল্যাণে তাঁর অবদানের প্রতি শ্রদ্ধা এবং দীর্ঘদিন সুস্থভাবে বাঁচিয়ে থাকার প্রার্থনার জন্যই এই ক্ষুদ্র লেখা।
বিরল প্রতিভাবান এই মহীয়সী নারী পিতা-মাতা, ভাইসহ পরিবারের সকল আপনজনকে হারিয়ে পিতার অসমাপ্ত কাজ- উন্নত বাংলাদেশ গড়ার জন্য- জীবনের শ্রেষ্ঠ সময় অতিবাহিত করেন।
তাঁর অবদানে ১৯৯৯ সালে প্রথম বাংলাদেশকে খাদ্যে স্বয়ংসম্পূর্ণ করেন। ১৯৯৯ সালের পর তিনি যতবার ক্ষমতায় ছিলেন, আর খাদ্যে ঘাটতি হয়নি। যেখানে মাথাপিছু আয় ছিল মাত্র ৩২৯ ডলার, সেখানে তিনি ২,৮৬৪ ডলারে উন্নীত করেন। আজ যদি তিনি ক্ষমতায় থাকতেন, তাহলে ইহা ৪,০০০ ডলারের উপরে যেত।
বিদ্যুৎ সংযোগ যেখানে ১৫ শতাংশ ছিল, শেখ হাসিনা তা শতভাগে উন্নীত করেছেন।
১৯৯১-১৯৯৬ সালে যখন বিএনপি ক্ষমতায় ছিল, তাদের নেতা মোরশেদ খান, যিনি পররাষ্ট্রমন্ত্রী ছিলেন, তাঁর একক মোবাইল কোম্পানির মনোপলির মোবাইল ব্যবসা, যা শুধু ঢাকাতে সীমাবদ্ধ ছিল, কল চার্জ ছিল ১৫ টাকা মিনিট। কিন্তু শেখ হাসিনা প্রথম ক্ষমতায় এসে গ্রামীণ, সেবা, এয়ারটেলসহ আরও কয়েকটি কোম্পানিকে সুযোগ করে দেওয়ায় তা দেশের সর্বত্র, গ্রাম-শহরের সকল মানুষের হাতে পৌঁছে যায় এবং কলপ্রতি ১৫ টাকা থেকে ১ টাকার নিচে নেমে আসে।
এখানে উল্লেখ করার মতো, যারা এই কোম্পানিগুলোর মালিক, তারা কেউ আওয়ামী লীগের নয়। বড় বড় ঠিকাদার যারা ছিল, তাদের কেউ আওয়ামী লীগের নয়।
বাংলাদেশে ছোট-বড় হাজার হাজার উন্নয়ন যেমন- যমুনা নদীর উপর ডাবল রেল ব্রিজ, পদ্মা ব্রিজ, মেট্রোরেল, কক্সবাজার পর্যন্ত রেললাইনসহ হাজার হাজার উন্নয়ন উল্লেখ করার মতো।
বাংলাদেশে এখন প্রায় ৩০ হাজার মেগাওয়াট বিদ্যুৎ উৎপাদন সক্ষম বিদ্যুৎকেন্দ্র আছে। সাবমেরিন কেবল ও স্যাটেলাইট স্টেশন স্থাপনের মাধ্যমে বাংলাদেশের উপকূলীয় অঞ্চল, পার্বত্য অঞ্চলসহ সব অঞ্চলের মানুষ সারা পৃথিবীর সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ করছে।
গড় আয়ু ৪৮ থেকে ৭৪ বছরে উন্নীত হয়েছে। মাতৃ ও শিশুমৃত্যুর হার পৃথিবীর উন্নত দেশের পর্যায়ে নিয়ে আসেন তিনি। দেশের মোট জিডিপি ৪৬ বিলিয়ন থেকে প্রায় ৫০০ বিলিয়নে উন্নীত করেন।
তাঁর নেতৃত্বে দেশ ভারত, পাকিস্তান, নেপাল থেকে মাথাপিছু আয়ে বাংলাদেশের বেশি হয়েছে। সর্বোপরি, যার নেতৃত্বে মানুষ শান্তিতে ছিল এবং স্বপ্ন দেখেছিল আরও ভালো থাকার। যার অবদানে বাংলাদেশ পৃথিবীর উন্নত দেশের কাতারে স্থান করে নেওয়ার পথে এগিয়ে যাচ্ছিল, তাঁকে জানাই সশ্রদ্ধ সালাম।
এই ২৮শে সেপ্টেম্বর মহান আল্লাহর কাছে প্রার্থনা, তাঁকে দীর্ঘজীবী করুন। আরও বহু বছর বাঙালি জাতির জন্য কাজ করার সুযোগ দিন।

I was traveling. I had a great desire to write something about her—born on September 28, 1947—who, after hundreds of years of deprivation and hardship, transformed the Bengali nation into a dignified one by providing food, clothing, education, healthcare, electrification, internet, and telecommunication for the first time. However, even a very brief description of the sacrifices and contributions this extraordinary woman has made for the development of a nation would turn into a booklet, which is not possible in this short span of time.
This modest writing is simply to pay tribute to her, honor her contributions to human welfare, and pray for her long and healthy life.
Having lost all her near and dear ones, including her parents and brothers, this rarely talented and magnificent woman has spent the best years of her life fulfilling her father's unfinished mission: building a developed Bangladesh.
Through her contribution, Bangladesh achieved self-sufficiency in food for the first time in 1999. Since 1999, whenever she was in power, there was never a food deficit again. Where the per capita income was only $329, she elevated it to $2,864. Had she been in power today, it would have exceeded $4,000.
Where electricity coverage was only 15 percent, Sheikh Hasina raised it to 100 percent.
When the BNP was in power from 1991 to 1996, their leader and then-Foreign Minister Morshed Khan held a monopoly on the mobile business through a single company, which was limited only to Dhaka with a call rate of 15 BDT per minute. But when Sheikh Hasina came to power for the first time, she opened opportunities for several companies like Grameenphone, Robi (Service), Airtel, and others. As a result, mobile phones reached people everywhere—in both villages and cities—and the call rate dropped from 15 BDT to under 1 BDT.
It is worth mentioning here that none of the owners of these companies belonged to the Awami League, nor did the major contractors belong to the party.
Thousands of large and small development projects in Bangladesh are truly remarkable, such as the double-rail bridge over the Jamuna River, the Padma Bridge, the Metro Rail, and the railway line up to Cox's Bazar.
Bangladesh now has power generation capacity of nearly 30,000 megawatts. Through the installation of submarine cables and satellite stations, people in all regions of Bangladesh, including coastal and hilly areas, are connected with the entire world.
Average life expectancy has increased from 48 to 74 years. She brought maternal and infant mortality rates down to the level of developed countries. She increased the country's total GDP from $46 billion to nearly $500 billion.
Under her leadership, Bangladesh surpassed India, Pakistan, and Nepal in per capita income. Above all, under her leadership, people lived in peace and dreamed of a better future. I offer my deepest salutations to her, through whose contribution Bangladesh was well on its way to securing a place among the developed nations of the world.
On this 28th of September, I pray to Almighty Allah: Grant her a long life and give her the opportunity to work for the Bengali nation for many more years.
Happy Birthday to Sheikh Hasina, the icon of global humanity.
