Loneliness—what a strange word! Yet inside it lies such depth, diversity, and generosity. There are no shouts of the crowd, no endless questions, no demands for answers. No expectations, no complaints. Just me, my quiet world, and a deep conversation with myself.
I am alone. At times, I quietly sink into my inner self. Yet people think about me, look at me, and speak about me. They speculate on what I will say, what I will ask for, or how I will react. But all the while, a completely different world remains awake inside me—a world no one knows anything about.
I often reflect: what are human relationships really made of?
When power is in my hands, when I have the capacity to give, and when people expect something from me, I become their cherished person, their master, their prominent figure. A crowd gathers around me. Praise flows, acts of love are staged, and so many sweet words ring in my ears!
But the day I become powerless, the day I have nothing left to give, or the day I shed tears in anger, sorrow, or helplessness—many of those very people will drift away. Looking at me from afar, they might say, "Ah, poor soul! Look how much he is suffering!"
How strange this world is! People often feel far more comfortable discussing someone’s misery from a distance than standing beside them in their moment of weakness.
Coming to a certain stage in life, I have realized that finding someone truly your own in this world is not easy. Finding a genuine friend is a matter of luck. And finding a life partner who loves you beyond your joy and sorrow, success and failure, power and helplessness—that is a supreme blessing.
I have been granted that supreme blessing. I have my wife, the love of my life. In this world, her love is my most precious sanctuary. I wish to spend the rest of my days with her—bound by trust, deep in love, leaving behind all of life’s weariness.
And that is why, today, loneliness gives me the greatest joy.
The trees standing before me keep me company. Written upon their leaves are stories of life. The elegance of flowers, the clear blue autumn sky, the gentle touch of the breeze—everything catches my eye and touches my heart. Nature asks no questions, expects nothing from me, and never belittles me. She simply stands before me in all her glory.
Yet in the midst of a crowd, how many voices must one endure!
Someone says, "You don't look your age at all!" Another remarks, "Looking at you, one would never guess how old you are." Some praise, others put on a show of admiration. Amidst this noise of words, I sometimes lose sight of my true self. It feels as if I am learning to see myself through others' eyes rather than my own.
Loneliness, however, has restored that freedom to me. Here, I do not need to measure my worth by anyone’s compliments. I do not have to wait for anyone’s validation. I can simply be present with myself, exactly as I am.
I have come to realize that people often draw close to others out of self-interest. Once that interest fades, the warmth of the relationship cools away. Of course, not everyone is the same. There are still good people in this world, selfless love, and true friendship. But finding them is rare. Fortunately, I am one of the lucky ones.
The deepest refuge of selfless love is a true life partner—someone who loves you not for your success, nor for your wealth, nor for your power, but loves your entire existence.
I have that person in my life. My wife, my love.
So even if the crowd thins out, my life is not empty. Rather, in the quiet of loneliness, I feel my love even more profoundly.
I love loneliness. For loneliness has made me a king, a poet, and a lover. The feelings that get buried beneath human clamor awaken once more in the silence of solitude.
Loneliness has taught me that one should not hate all people, yet one must not offer everyone a place within the innermost chamber of one's heart. Those who speak one thing while harbouring another, who conceal the truth, demean others' dignity, and derive pleasure from insulting others—it is best to stay far away from them.
For respect is not something to be begged for, and love cannot be earned through pretense. Nor is there any need to maintain a relationship at the cost of one's self-respect.
Do not destroy your peace trying to prove yourself to those who insult you. Do not waste your life seeking validation from those who fail to see your worth. Hold fast to your truth, protect your dignity, and return to the deep realization of your love.
At the final bend of life, perhaps a person no longer seeks grand recognition. One merely longs for a bit of peace, a little love, and a few genuine moments. One longs for a world where one can breathe freely on one's own terms.
To me, that world is named Loneliness.
This loneliness awakens the truth within me. It deepens my feelings, liberates my thoughts, and purifies my love. Here, I am no one’s rival, no one’s subordinate, and I seek no one’s praise. I am simply me.
I speak to my trees, gaze at the flowers, look up at the autumn sky, and reflect upon my past. Sometimes memories bring tears to my eyes, sometimes love brings a smile, and sometimes thoughts of the future lull me into silence. Yet within this silence, I find an unparalleled joy in living.
Loneliness does not mean running away from the world. Loneliness means returning to oneself.
It means standing a little apart from the crowd to rediscover one's own life—to realize who is truly yours, which love is real, and which relationships exist merely for self-interest.
Today, I know that I do not need the entire world for my happiness. All I need is a touch of green from nature, a slice of blue from the sky, a few honest feelings in my heart, and the love of my dearest one.
With just this much, I am complete.
Loneliness has not impoverished me; rather, it has revealed the riches within me. It has taught me that being at peace with oneself is a great achievement.
Loneliness has made me a king, a poet, a lover—and above all, loneliness has returned me to myself.
