ঢাকায় এসেছেন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের কেন্দ্রীয় গোয়েন্দা সংস্থা CIA-এর ডিরেক্টরেট অব অপারেশন্সের সাবেক জ্যেষ্ঠ কর্মকর্তা জেরাল্ড পি. হ্যামিল্টন। মার্কিন দূতাবাসের সহযোগিতায় তিনি রাজধানীর দ্য ওয়েস্টিন হোটেলে অবস্থান করছেন। তবে তাঁর সফরের উদ্দেশ্য এখনো প্রকাশ্যে আসেনি।
CIA-তে প্রায় ৩৫ বছরের দীর্ঘ কর্মজীবনে হ্যামিল্টন দক্ষিণ এশিয়া, লাতিন আমেরিকা, ক্যারিবীয় অঞ্চল, আফ্রিকা ও ইউরোপে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ দায়িত্ব পালন করেছেন। পাশাপাশি CIA সদর দপ্তরেও তিনি অফিস ডিরেক্টর ও ডিভিশন চিফসহ একাধিক উচ্চপর্যায়ের পদে ছিলেন। তাঁর পেশাগত অভিজ্ঞতার বড় অংশই ছিল বিদেশভিত্তিক গোয়েন্দা কার্যক্রমে।
প্রাপ্ত তথ্য অনুযায়ী, আগামী ৩১ জুলাই পর্যন্ত ঢাকায় থাকার কথা রয়েছে তাঁর। তবে এই সফরকে কেন্দ্র করে এখন পর্যন্ত কোনো আনুষ্ঠানিক বৈঠক বা সরকারি কর্মসূচির তথ্য প্রকাশ করা হয়নি। তাঁর সফর নিরাপত্তা সহযোগিতা, কূটনৈতিক পরামর্শ, ব্যক্তিগত যোগাযোগ নাকি অন্য কোনো বিশেষ উদ্যোগের অংশ—তা নিয়েও স্পষ্ট কোনো তথ্য পাওয়া যায়নি।
মার্কিন দূতাবাস ও বাংলাদেশ সরকারের পক্ষ থেকেও সফরটির বিষয়ে কোনো আনুষ্ঠানিক ব্যাখ্যা দেওয়া হয়নি। ফলে CIA-এর এই সাবেক কর্মকর্তার আকস্মিক ঢাকা সফর কূটনৈতিক ও নিরাপত্তা মহলে নতুন করে আগ্রহ তৈরি করেছে।

Gerald P. Hamilton, a former senior official of the Directorate of Operations at the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), has arrived in Dhaka. With the assistance of the U.S. Embassy, he is staying at The Westin Dhaka. However, the purpose of his visit has not yet been made public.
During his nearly 35-year career with the CIA, Hamilton served in key positions across South Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Europe. He also held several senior positions at CIA headquarters, including Office Director and Division Chief. A significant part of his professional career was focused on overseas intelligence operations.
According to available information, Hamilton is expected to remain in Dhaka until July 31. However, no information has so far been made public regarding any official meetings or government engagements connected to his visit. It also remains unclear whether his trip is related to security cooperation, diplomatic consultations, personal contacts, or some other special initiative.
Neither the U.S. Embassy nor the Bangladesh government has issued any official explanation regarding the visit. As a result, the sudden arrival of the former CIA official in Dhaka has generated renewed interest among diplomatic and security circles.
