Put your hand on your heart and think—into whose clutches has this independent motherland fallen today? A valiant freedom fighter, who risked his life on the battlefields of 1971 to liberate the country from the enemy, had to fight for a single spot for his grave on this very free soil even after his death! In what age of deep darkness are we living?
The man who stood up against the crimes against humanity in 1971, who served as a key witness in the legal battle against the Razakars in the interest of justice—the vile mockery that took place over the mortal remains of that brave freedom fighter, Manik Pashari, after his death has smeared a mark of disgrace on our national conscience.
October 24, 2026. At the age of 87, valiant freedom fighter Manik Pashari departed for the eternal realm. In the soil of Chitaliya village in Pirojpur where he was born, the soil he loved so much—attempts were made to deprive him of the embrace of that very soil even after death. Having acted as the 6th prosecution witness to unmask the heinous criminals of '71, he had to endure a demonic backlash even after his passing.
Far from receiving a state guard of honor, even the grave that had been dug for his burial in his own area was filled back in! What does such inhumane obstruction and barbaric behavior regarding the burial of a deceased freedom fighter prove? This is not merely the devaluation of an individual; it is a direct, vile blow to our independence and the spirit of the Liberation War.
Today, the question arises—will the accomplices of the Razakars have the final say in this Bengal? In the land where we brought our flag through bloodshed, is not even the corpse of a freedom fighter safe today? What kind of hypocrisy is this, where open obstruction is followed by clever dramas of evading responsibility?
Our sharp and resounding question to the state: Was it not the administration's responsibility to protect the honor of a gazetted valiant freedom fighter's remains, ensure security for his family, and guarantee his burial? A fair and impartial investigation into this disgraceful incident must be conducted, and every single conspirator involved must be brought to justice.
Manik Pashari is no longer among us. But he has left behind a burning question for us—have we forever lost the responsibility of ensuring the final resting place on this country's soil for the man who gifted us an independent nation?
Salute to you, valiant freedom fighter Manik Pashari. Bengal does not have the capacity to repay the debt of your contribution, but we will never allow you to be disrespected.
