পৃথিবীতে কি এমন কোনো জাতি আছে, যাদের মধ্যে কেউ তাদের জাতীয় বীরদের—যারা জীবন দিয়ে, জেল খেটে, নির্যাতিত হয়ে মৃত্যুবরণ করে একটি জাতির জন্ম ও স্বাধীনতা অর্জনের জন্য আত্মোৎসর্গ করেছেন—তাদের অবদানকে অস্বীকার করে এবং ইতিহাস বিকৃত করে তাদের বিরুদ্ধে কুৎসিত মিথ্যা প্রচারণা চালায়? পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে এমন মিথ্যাচার ও রাজনৈতিক বিকৃতি শুধু এই বাংলাদেশেই সম্ভব। কারণ এই দেশে জামায়াতে ইসলামী নামে একটি ধর্মভিত্তিক রাজনৈতিক দল আছে। যারা ধর্মীয় অবাস্তব কুৎসা মানুষের মাঝে আল্লাহর দেওয়া বক্তব্য বলে চালিয়ে মানুষের মুক্তচিন্তার স্বাধীনতা খর্ব করে রাজনীতিকে এক অন্ধকার যুগে নিয়ে যেতে চায়।
সেই সঙ্গে মানুষের আধুনিক চিন্তা-উপলব্ধিকে ধর্মের পৌরাণিক কাহিনীকে আল্লাহর হুকুম বলে প্রচার করে এক অর্থডক্স জাতিতে পরিণত করে অন্ধকার যুগের আইয়ামে জাহেলিয়াতের যুগে নিয়ে যেতে চায়। তার প্রমাণ হিসেবে তাদের নেতাদের ব্যক্তিগত জীবনের যৌন বিকৃত রুচিবোধকে নবী-রাসুলের সুন্নত বলে উপস্থাপন করা হয় এবং মাদ্রাসাগুলোতে ধর্মীয় শিক্ষার নামে মধ্যযুগীয় শিশু বলাৎকার ও যৌন নির্যাতনের মহোৎসব চলছে।
তা ছাড়া এই মৌলবাদী গোষ্ঠী পৃথিবীর আধুনিক জ্ঞান-বিজ্ঞান ও যুক্তিনির্ভর জীবনধারাকে আল্লাহর বিরুদ্ধে নাজায়েজ বলে প্রচার দিয়ে ব্যক্তিগতভাবে তারা কোনো দৃশ্যত কাজকর্ম না করে মানুষকে কর্মবিমুখ জাতিতে পরিণত করতে চায়। কিন্তু পক্ষান্তরে তারা আল্লাহর নামে চাঁদা তোলে, বিলাসী জীবনযাপন করে। তাদের এই সব অপকর্মকেও আল্লাহর আইন বলে চালিয়ে দেয় এবং তারা সমালোচনা ও জবাবদিহিতার ঊর্ধ্বে থাকে। আমাদের দেশে রাজনীতিকদের, বিশেষ করে জামায়াত-বিএনপির ইতিহাস নিয়ে এত মিথ্যাচার বিশ্ব ইতিহাসে বিরল। বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতার যুদ্ধ ছিল একটি ২৬ বছরের রাজনৈতিক আন্দোলনের শেষ পরিসমাপ্তি। এই ২৬ বছরের আন্দোলন-সংগ্রামের ইতিহাসে ১৯৭১ সালের ২৬ মার্চের পূর্বে মেজর জিয়ার নাম কেউ জানত না, বা তিনি আমাদের স্বাধীনতা ও স্বাধিকার আন্দোলনের কোনো পর্যায়ে সম্পৃক্ত ছিলেন না।
২৫ মার্চ পাকিস্তানি সেনাবাহিনীর বর্বরতার বিরুদ্ধে যখন বাঙালি পুলিশ, ইপিআর ও সেনাবাহিনীর অধিকাংশ সদস্য জাতির পিতার নির্দেশে প্রতিরোধযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করেছিলেন, শত শত বাঙালি সেনা কর্মকর্তার মতো জিয়াউর রহমানও তাঁদের একজন ছিলেন। তিনি সেদিন শুধু রাজনৈতিক নেতৃবৃন্দের অনুরোধে, জাতির পিতার নামে স্বাধীনতার ঘোষণা করেন। সেই জায়গায় যদি অন্য যেকোনো বাঙালি কর্মকর্তা থাকতেন, তাকেও দিয়ে ঘোষণা দেওয়া হতো।
পরবর্তী ৯ মাস মেজর জিয়া স্বাধীন বাংলাদেশ সরকারের অধীনে থেকে ১১ জন সেক্টর কমান্ডারের মধ্যে একজন সেক্টর কমান্ডার হিসেবে যুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করেন এবং একজন সাধারণ সরকারি কর্মকর্তার মতোই বেতন-ভাতা ( ৪৫০ টাকা ) ও সকল সুযোগ-সুবিধা ভোগ করেন। স্বাধীনতার পরও তিনি যথাযথভাবে সেনাবাহিনীতে যোগদান করেন এবং উপ-প্রধান সেনাপতি হন।
যুদ্ধে মেজর জিয়া ১১ জন সেক্টর কমান্ডারের মধ্যে একজন ছিলেন। অর্থাৎ সামরিক বাহিনীতে তাঁর সমমর্যাদার আরও ১০ জন ছিলেন, যারা সবাই জেনারেল ওসমানীর কমান্ডে, জাতির পিতার নামে গঠিত সরকারের অধীনে পরিচালিত হয়েছিলেন।
১৯৪৮ সালের ভাষা আন্দোলন থেকে ১৯৬৬ সালের ছয় দফা, ১৯৬৯ সালের গণ-আন্দোলন এবং ১৯৭১ সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধ ছিল শেখ মুজিবের নেতৃত্বে বাঙালির আন্দোলনের ইতিহাস। যে আন্দোলনে শেখ মুজিব তাঁর যৌবনের ১২ বছর ৬ মাস জেলে ছিলেন এবং লক্ষ লক্ষ আওয়ামী লীগ ও সহযোগী রাজনৈতিক নেতৃবৃন্দ জেল-জুলুম ও আত্মত্যাগ স্বীকার করেছেন।
যে ব্যক্তি এই দীর্ঘ রাজনৈতিক বিপ্লবের ইতিহাসের সঙ্গে কোনোভাবেই সম্পৃক্ত নন, শুধু সরকারি কর্মচারী হিসেবে যুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করেছেন, সেই মেজর জিয়াকে যখন মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ঘোষক বলে মহা-নায়ক বানিয়ে ইতিহাস তৈরি করা হয়, তখন এই এআই যুগে পৃথিবীর মানুষের কাছে জাতি হিসেবে আমরা কতটা নিকৃষ্ট, তা-ই আমরা প্রমাণ করেছি।
মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাসে সেনাবাহিনীর পাশাপাশি লক্ষ লক্ষ গেরিলা যোদ্ধা কোনো বেতন-ভাতা বা লজিস্টিক সুবিধা ছাড়াই জীবন বাজি রেখে যুদ্ধ করে দেশ স্বাধীন করেছেন। যারা জীবন দিয়েছেন, যারা সম্ভ্রম হারিয়েছেন, তাঁদের কী উপাধি ও ক্ষতিপূরণ দিয়ে সম্মানিত করব?
আমাদের দেশে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের ইতিহাসকে এমনভাবে তুলে ধরা হচ্ছে যেন তা ছিল একজন মেজরের হঠাৎ যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা। আর অন্যদিকে মৌলবাদী শক্তি, যারা ছিল ১৯৭১ সালের পরাজিত শক্তি, তারা ১৯৭১ সালের পরাজয়ের প্রতিশোধ নিতে ইতিহাস মুছে ফেলে নতুন করে ২০২৪ সালকে আসল মুক্তির যুদ্ধ বলে চালিয়ে দিতে চায়।
২০২৪ সালে এই মৌলবাদী শক্তি বাংলাদেশের মুক্তিযুদ্ধের সমস্ত চিহ্ন ধ্বংস করে দিয়েছে। তারা মুক্তিযোদ্ধা ও স্বাধীনতা—এই শব্দগুলোর বিরুদ্ধেই যুদ্ধ ঘোষণা করেছে। আর এ জন্য তারা নেতা হিসেবে বেছে নিয়েছে মেজর জিয়াকে, যার নাম মুক্তিসংগ্রামের ইতিহাসে নেই; তাঁকে শুধু ৯ মাসের যুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণকারী হিসেবে ব্যবহার করে প্রকৃত স্বাধীনতার সংগ্রামের ইতিহাস মুছে ফেলতে, স্বাধীনতার নায়কদের নাম মুছে ফেলতে এবং একটি পৌরাণিক মৌলবাদী রাষ্ট্র তৈরি করে মানুষের মুক্তচিন্তা ও গণতন্ত্রের আন্দোলন চিরস্থায়ীভাবে বন্ধ করতে চায়।
তাই আজ আওয়ামী লীগের রাজনীতি বন্ধ। আমাদের ইতিহাসে আওয়ামী লীগ মানুষের অধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠার আন্দোলনে চারবার নিষিদ্ধ হয়েছে। বাংলাদেশে গণতন্ত্র ও মানুষের অধিকার চিরস্থায়ীভাবে বিলুপ্ত করার জন্যই আওয়ামী লীগের রাজনীতি নিষিদ্ধ করা হয়েছে। কারণ, এই উপমহাদেশে একমাত্র আওয়ামী লীগই আধুনিক ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ রাজনৈতিক সংস্কৃতি চালু করেছিল। আর এ জন্যই দেশ গত ১৬ বছরে একটি উন্নয়নশীল ও সমৃদ্ধ দেশের পর্যায়ে পরিণত হয়েছিল।
আওয়ামী লীগ জাতীয় মানুষের সার্বিক কল্যাণ ও দেশের স্বার্থ কারও কাছে বিক্রি করেনি। আজ আওয়ামী লীগকে নিষিদ্ধ করে দেশকে আমেরিকার কাছে গোলামির চুক্তির দিকে নিয়ে যাওয়া হচ্ছে। বাংলাদেশ আজ বিশ্বের অন্যতম অনিরাপদ দেশে পরিণত হয়েছে।
ধর্মান্ধ মৌলবাদীরা নারীজাতিকে গনিমতের মাল হিসেবে প্রচার করছে। মাদ্রাসাগুলো আজ শিশুদের যৌন নির্যাতনের অভয়ারণ্যে পরিণত হয়েছে। তথাকথিত জামায়াত, এমপি ও মৌলবাদী সংগঠনের নেতারা এখন প্রকাশ্যেই নারী নির্যাতন ও ধর্ষণ করছে। তারা ধর্মের অপব্যাখ্যা দিয়ে এসবের পক্ষে বক্তব্য দিচ্ছে।
গত দুই বছরে বাংলাদেশ একটি মধ্যযুগীয় বর্বর দেশে পরিণত হয়েছে। এখন নারীদের পণ্য হিসেবে দেখা হচ্ছে। মানুষের কোনো আইনি নিরাপত্তা নেই। আইন, আদালত ও সরকার শুধু মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষের মানুষদের এবং বিজয়ীদের বিচারের নামে নির্যাতন করছে। মুজিবের আদর্শ ও ধর্মনিরপেক্ষ রাষ্ট্রের পক্ষের মানুষদের সবকিছুই নিশ্চিহ্ন করে সর্বক্ষেত্রে একটি মৌলবাদী, অকার্যকর রাষ্ট্রে রূপান্তরিত করার অপচেষ্টা চালানো হচ্ছে।
আজ বাংলাদেশ আলোর পথ থেকে অন্ধকারের পথে হাঁটছে। আর এই অন্ধকার থেকে আলোর পথে নিয়ে যেতে পারবে একমাত্র জাতির পিতার আদর্শ। আজ জীবিত মুজিবের চেয়ে মৃত মুজিব বেশি প্রাসঙ্গিক। কারণ, ক্ষমতা দখলকারী মৌলবাদীদের আতঙ্ক শুধু শেখ মুজিব। তাঁর নাম নিলেই ক্ষমতার মসনদ মহা টাইফুনের মতো কেঁপে ওঠে।
আর তাই আগামীতে মুজিবের রক্ত ও আদর্শের অতন্দ্র প্রহরী শেখ হাসিনার আগমনের সঙ্গে সঙ্গে কোটি কোটি মুক্তিযোদ্ধার রক্তের উত্তরাধিকারীরা আরেকটি যুদ্ধ করে বাংলাদেশকে কলঙ্কমুক্ত করবে এবং মনুষ্যত্ব, অর্থনৈতিক সমৃদ্ধি ও সমঅধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠা করবে। এর মাধ্যমেই হবে জাতির পিতার প্রতি সত্যিকারের শ্রদ্ধা। আর ২০২৬-এর ১৫ আগস্ট এটাই হোক বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা পক্ষের শক্তির শপথ। জয় বাংলা।

Is there any nation in the world where some people deny the contributions of their national heroes—who sacrificed themselves by giving their lives, enduring imprisonment, suffering torture, and embracing death for the birth and independence of a nation—and distort history to run ugly smear campaigns against them? Such falsehoods and political distortion in world history are possible only in this Bangladesh. Because in this country, there is a religion-based political party named Jamaat-e-Islami. By passing off absurd religious slander among the people as the word of Allah, they want to curtail people's freedom of free thought and drag politics into a dark age.
At the same time, by preaching religious mythology as the command of Allah against people's modern thoughts and perceptions, they want to turn us into an orthodox nation and take us back to the dark age of Ayyam al-Jahiliyyah (the age of ignorance). As proof of this, the sexually perverted tastes of their leaders' personal lives are presented as the Sunnah of the Prophet-Messenger, and under the guise of religious education, a grand festival of medieval child rape and sexual abuse is going on in the madrasas.
Moreover, by propagating that the world's modern science and logic-based lifestyle are 'haram' (forbidden) against Allah, this fundamentalist group, without doing any visible work themselves, wants to turn people into a work-averse nation. But on the other hand, they collect extortions in the name of Allah and lead luxurious lives. They pass off these misdeeds of theirs as the law of Allah and remain above criticism and accountability. The extent of falsehoods by politicians in our country, especially regarding the history of Jamaat-BNP, is rare in world history. Bangladesh's war of independence was the final culmination of a 26-year political movement. In the history of this 26-year movement and struggle, no one knew the name of Major Zia before March 26, 1971, nor was he involved in any phase of our independence and self-determination movement.
When on March 25, against the barbarity of the Pakistani army, the Bengali police, EPR, and most members of the army participated in the resistance war at the directive of the Father of the Nation, Ziaur Rahman was just one of them like hundreds of other Bengali army officers. On that day, merely at the request of the political leaders, he announced the declaration of independence in the name of the Father of the Nation. If any other Bengali officer had been in that position, the declaration would have been made by him too.
For the next 9 months, Major Zia participated in the war as one of the 11 sector commanders under the independent Bangladesh government and enjoyed salary and allowances (450 Taka) and all benefits just like an ordinary government official. Even after independence, he duly rejoined the army and became the Deputy Chief of Army Staff.
Major Zia was one of the 11 sector commanders in the war. That is, there were 10 others of his equal rank in the military, who all operated under the command of General Osmani, under the government formed in the name of the Father of the Nation.
From the 1948 Language Movement to the Six-Point Movement of 1966, the Mass Uprising of 1969, and the Liberation War of 1971, it was the history of the Bengali movement under the leadership of Sheikh Mujib. In this movement, Sheikh Mujib spent 12 years and 6 months of his youth in jail, and millions of Awami League and allied political leaders endured imprisonment, oppression, and made sacrifices.
When a person who was not involved in the history of this long political revolution in any way, but merely participated in the war as a government employee—that Major Zia—is made into a great hero by proclaiming him the announcer of the Liberation War to create history, we only prove how inferior we are as a nation to the people of the world in this age of AI.
In the history of the Liberation War, alongside the army, millions of guerrilla fighters risked their lives without any salary, allowances, or logistical benefits to fight and free the country. Those who gave their lives, those who lost their honor, with what titles and compensations shall we honor them?
In our country, the history of the Liberation War is being portrayed in such a way as if it was a sudden declaration of war by a Major. On the other hand, the fundamentalist forces, who were the defeated forces of 1971, want to erase history to take revenge for their defeat in 1971 and portray 2024 as the real war of liberation.
In 2024, these fundamentalist forces have destroyed all symbols of Bangladesh's Liberation War. They have declared war against the very words "freedom fighter" and "independence." And for this, they have chosen Major Zia as their leader, whose name is not in the history of the freedom struggle; by using him merely as a participant in a 9-month war, they want to erase the history of the true struggle for independence, erase the names of the heroes of independence, and create a mythical fundamentalist state to permanently stop people's free thought and democratic movements.
That is why Awami League's politics is banned today. In our history, the Awami League has been banned four times in the movement to establish people's rights. The Awami League's politics has been banned to permanently abolish democracy and human rights in Bangladesh. Because, in this subcontinent, only the Awami League introduced a modern secular political culture. And this is why, over the past 16 years, the country transformed into a developing and prosperous nation.
The Awami League has never sold out the overall welfare of the national populace and the country's interests to anyone. Today, by banning the Awami League, the country is being led toward a treaty of slavery to America. Bangladesh has today become one of the most unsafe countries in the world.
The blind religious fundamentalists are propagating women as spoils of war (Ghanimat). Madrasas have today become sanctuaries for child sexual abuse. So-called Jamaat leaders, MPs, and leaders of fundamentalist organizations are now openly torturing and raping women. They are giving speeches in favor of these acts through the misinterpretation of religion.
Over the past two years, Bangladesh has turned into a medieval barbaric country. Women are now seen as commodities. People have no legal security. The law, courts, and government are only torturing pro-liberation people and the victors in the name of trials. Despicable attempts are being made to obliterate everything belonging to the people on the side of Mujib's ideals and a secular state, transforming it into a fundamentalist, failed state in every sphere.
Today, Bangladesh is walking from the path of light toward the path of darkness. And only the ideals of the Father of the Nation can lead us from this darkness to the path of light. Today, a dead Mujib is more relevant than a living Mujib. Because the only terror for the fundamentalists who have seized power is Sheikh Mujib. Just uttering his name makes the throne of power shake like a massive typhoon.
And so, in the future, with the arrival of Sheikh Hasina—the vigilant guardian of Mujib's blood and ideals—the heirs to the blood of millions of freedom fighters will wage another war to cleanse Bangladesh of its stigma and establish humanity, economic prosperity, and equal rights. Through this alone will true respect be shown to the Father of the Nation. And on August 15, 2026, let this be the oath of the pro-independence forces of Bangladesh. Joy Bangla.
